Babi Badalov, Künstler, Aktivist, schwul, hält sich zur Zeit in England auf. Sein Asylantrag dort wurde abgelehnt und nun soll er in sein Heimatland Aserbaidschan abgeschoben werden. Dort drohen ihm Verfolgung und Bestrafung durch den Staat und die eigene Familie:
Because of his sexuality and the radical nature of his creative activities, he has endured government-led suppression together with physical and mental abuse from other sectors of society. All this has taken place in a Muslim country, where homosexuality remains an extremely taboo subject. This led one of Babi’s brothers to threaten to kill him because of the shame which he has brought on the family.
Die Abschiebung soll heute durchgeführt werden. Die Flugesellschaft Azerbaijan Airlines hat jedoch nach heftigen Protesten ihre Mitwirkung verweigert.
Azerbaijan Airlines have bowed to public pressure, and refused to deport a gay radical artist Babi Badalov, who fears for his life if returned home.
The Airline has been inundated with phone calls from friends and supporters expressing their extreme concern about the company’s involvement in the deportation. Spokesman Omar Khamal told one campaigner:
“Azerbaijan Airlines will not be carrying out the deportation now or in the future.”
Another employee, who would identify himself only as Tahir, told another of Babi’s supporters:
“We were asked to remove this man, but we’ve told the Home Office we’re refusing to do this. He won’t be flown out on one of our flights. We’ve had people contacting us about this all day, and we haven’t been able to do any work or sell any tickets. This morning I got 50 phone calls and 60 e-mails. It’s really affecting our business”.

Babi phoned a friend/campaigner early this morning almost hysterical after he had been told that they were taking him to the airport at 09:00 today. In a move that appears to go against their own rules the UK Border Agency have changed the details of Babi’s forced removal, at the last minute and on a saturday Babi has been given new removal directions, he will now be deported from Heathrow Airport at 15:15 today on flight BD929 British Midlands Airways (BMI) to Baku.

Babi is medically unfit to travel, and is under threat in Azerbaijan.
Threaten a boycott of the company and serious finacial consquences that that will cause.
Highlight the damage it will cause the BMI brand from the large amount of press coverage this will get (point out that there has been a large amount of press coverage of Babi’s case alredy)
