Nichts Erfreuliches, wie Pinkpaper zu berichten weiß:

Thirty Iraqi gay men and women have been forced out of their safe houses and left to fight for their lives on the streets.

Es fehlte am Geld:

Five safe houses were set up two years ago to defend Iraq’s queers, who have fled homophobia and death threats from religious fundamentalists and death squads. Now a lack of funds for rent and utility bills means three of the refuges have to close.

Natürlich sind die Islamistenführer wieder in vorderster Front dabei, wenn es um Schwulenhass geht:

Homophobic hate crimes have skyrocketed in Iraq since 2005, when leading Muslim cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, issued a religious decree ordering that gays be “killed in the worst, most severe way possible.”

Und nicht ganz zu Unrecht wird die Frage aufgeworfen:

“Are gay people in the United States, Britain and Australia aware of what their governments have done to our country? Their armies created the chaos and lawlessness that has allowed religious fundamentalism to flourish and to terrorise gay people.”
